Get ready for the zettabyte

2015 is the year we hit the 1 zettabyte a year mark. That is four times more internet data than the 242 exabytes last year. That is a crapload of data. And for most of you out there crapload is a pretty good description. But for a few obsessive data analysts, more precision is necessary. All this data is being generated because Ciscothinks the number of internet connected devices will outnumber us humans 2 to 1. So with more devices, more access and faster speeds the future of internet still has a big growth ahead. Every minute 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube. On Facebook, 1,000 photos are uploaded every second yielding 3 billion photos every month. And whether Cisco came up with these number for an advertising campaign or not, it is still true the internet has come a long way since its first appearance in the world of M.A.S.H. And for those round glassed nerds out there, a zettabyte is equal to 1 billion terabytes and looks like this, 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes = 10007 = 1021
