WATCH! Death meditation for 18 days
At some point in life we all die. Even the reincarnation of a Samdrup Gompa Tulku (a particular high-ranking lama) out of Eastern Tibet. Venerable Jampa Thupten Tulku Rinpoche (yes really) was a lama at Dhargyey Buddhist Centre in Dunedin. He died on May 24 and cremated on June 14. What is wrong here you say? Well that’s a little bit more than is usually permitted for burial or cremation. But PHS Otago-Southland medical officer of health Dr Derek Bell said “In this instance, there are no public health issues that we were concerned about”. Why was that Derek? Because the lama was still in the body, in spirit. Not convinced? He was pronounced dead by a doctor on the 24th, but there was no sign of rigor mortis, no smell until the moment he was cremated. TVNZ Sunday will find out why. Maybe with the help of Mulder and Scully? Preview here. ODT story here. Bio here. Some truly weird and spooky reality tv, Sunday June 19 7.30pm.
