Radio One is Radio Zero without funding

As it stands it appears Radio One will soon cease to exist. Yes very sad. Because AltoFM and it’s listeners deserve permanent support. So why should they get help. Not for nothing. They’re a station owned by student body OUSA through Planet Media, who front up $96,000 for R1. More funding comes from at least the DCC ($4,000 through Planet Media Inc) and NZ on Air ($75,000). Aren’t you sick, weak and independent then? The reason for all this support is clear: student orientated, multi-cultural station providing it’s few listeners with alternative shit, beginners tunes and homegrown ‘hits’. As you can see this has become the love of everyone trying to make it big or wants to promote anything nobody else wants to listen to. It has to be said that some stars did begin off by humping the leg of the local student radiostation to make their sound be heard. But enough is enough. It’s too expensive for the OUSA when the levies won’t be included in the university fees next year. Hard decision but maybe one of those big stars with their roots in Otago will help their old friends out like they helped along so many careers.
