Operation Money Spending

Downsize the Defence Force. Get rid of 300 uniformed staff. And then of course spend $4.2 million on media adverts and $16 million on a contract with Saatchi and Saatchi. Green MP Keith Locke questioned defence minister Wayne Mapp  after Stuff.co.nz revealed the spending by the Defence Force. Now figures show since 2008 $20m has been spent and $15m is budgeted for the next three years. Some funny ads, nice glossy brochures and a TVNZ reality show, Operation Hero. The Defence Force needs about 15,000 people a year to sustain operations. What for? We aren’t at war with anyone. We aren’t under threat. Oh peacekeeping missions. According to the NZDF website ‘there are currently 666-688 New Zealand Defence Force personnel deployed on 19 peacekeeping operations, UN missions and defence exercises across 10 countries’. Well get those 666 back and they should be enough to protect the country (since we would have the devil on our side).
