Sent to Malaysia without passing Go
Governments are using social media and YouTube more and more as a way to get their message across. It also shows their lack of knowledge about the interweb when they use YouTube to deter asylum seekers. How many really do check the internet to see what life in their new country is like and the dangers involved. That is if they even have internet. The always tolerant Aussies have come up with a YouTube video to show new arrivals by boat, from countries like Iran, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, that it really is pointless to risk the journey. The Australia government recently signed a deal with Malaysia to send 800 boatpeople from Aussie to the Southeast Asian country. In return 4000 registered immigrants will move the other way around. Julia Gillard is smashing the business model of people-smugglers as human rights groups smash the deal, because Malaysia has not signed the UN Convention on Refugees. They are believed to be routinely mistreated in the Malaysian camps. At least the asylum seekers don’t have to row back up north, the Australian government is providing a plane for their trip to Kuala Lumpur. If the video doesn’t work, Australia always has mother nature to protect their borders.
