We owe $9.5m

A great warning by The Star newspaper today. This is for all you people owing fines. The Ministry of Justice is getting ready for hunting season. Government needs to tighten their belt and is looking for new ways to get funds. Of course the main resource for the people in power is the people on the street. So with the new Courts and Criminal Matters Bill coming into effect there will be tougher measures for non-payers. We will see licences suspended, deduction of wages or benefits and additional reparation orders. The Ministry has announced that in the city of Dunedin a total of 38,215 fines are unpaid worth $9.5 million. Good effort people. If only we could use that community money within the Dunedin city for the better of the community.
